Each year, advertisers across America spend millions to get airtime during the nation’s biggest television event. It’s a gamble, because to be noticed, you really have to push your idea to the limit. If you’re going for heart-warming, you gotta pull out all the stops. Soldiers returning home, kids being given little puppies; that sort of thing. If you’re going for funny, that’s even harder. Lots of brands, like Doritos and GoDaddy.com even get their ads banned in the search for a memorable commercial. Coke, who usually does well, enlisted some big guns this year, namely the cast of The Simpsons. And while the premise is pretty amazing, the end product, like the drink, is kind of saccharine. But why don’t you be the judge?

So Superbowl MMXCVII (or something) is on right now and we’re pretty certain most of North America is at least half drunk by now and definitely getting drunker. With all the drinking going on, I wonder if anyone would notice if we substituted this video in for the real game?

No, Onitsuka hasn’t decided to sponsor the disgraced golfing sexaholic. These Tigers celebrate their Japanese heritage by evoking traditional Tansu imagery. Tansu is the ancient practice of making really awesome boxes out of wood. But like one of those Japanese trick boxes that’s super hard to open, Onitsuka isn’t giving much away easily. As of today, we have a giant shoe made of boxes and a teaser video which does just that. So two things are apparent. The first is that we’ll have to wait and the second is that the wait will be more than worth it.
