So you’ve probably seen adidas Originals amazing new street party ad by now and we’re willing to bet that some of you are thinking: what’s the point of having all these incredibly creative people in a commercial if all you get to do is see them for a split second? Well, that’s an excellent question. The answer is, there is no point. This is just about the coolest thing we’ve ever seen. I’m sure all of us have been unsatisfied with commercial radio from time to time, but what do you do? Turn it off? Chuck on your iPod? Beginning in the 60s in England, musical malcontents took broadcasting into their own hands by setting up pirate radio stations, transmitting from the tops of apartment buildings or old ships just outside of British waters. They played everything from rock to dub to soul, and they did it purely out of love. These days you can get whatever you want, whenever you want it so this anarchic tradition is slowly dying out. But you have to admire these clandestine DJs for their passion and ingenuity. Long live pirate radio. Check out this documentary from European footwear brand Palladium and you’ll see what we mean.
