Hype DC presents First. Film
Ep.02 New Balance Lawrence, MA Factory

Founded in Boston in 1906, New Balance stays true to its independent heritage by continuing manufacturing across five facilities across New England. The Made in USA collection represents New Balance craftsmanship without compromise; bold street-style silhouettes proudly crafted by the finest shoemakers in the world. For the second instalment of First. Film, Hype DC travelled to the New Balance factory based in Lawrence, Massachusetts to discover the people and processes responsible for the pinnacle of New Balance craftsmanship.

Progressive, yet rooted in heritage, the 990v5 is the embodiment of this ethos. The manufacturing process behind the latest flagship NB silhouette illustrates what defines the Made Collection and the standard of excellence required to bear the New Balance name. The 990v5 continues the New Balance tradition of expertly crafted, premium trainers that began with the original 990 back in 1982 and represents the pinnacle of New Balance’s flagship 99x collection. While the DNA of the original is still present – pigskin suede, USA manufacturing, superior cushioning – the latest 990 iteration refines three decades of innovation to create a versatile shoe that’s worn by supermodels in London and dads in Ohio.

Each pair is assembled by craftsmen at NB’s Lawrence Factory in Massachusetts, a beautiful red brick building that stands as a testament to the company’s commitment to domestic manufacturing spanning over 75 years. Along with the 30 years of genuine British craftsmanship in their Flimby factory, the New Balance Made Collection celebrates tradition in an era defined by speed of innovation.

The New Balance Flimby factory in the UK is responsible for some of the most refined, premium sneakers available. Each Made in UK silhouette is expertly constructed with levels of attention-to-detail rarely seen today, made to uphold the legacy and standards.
