The latest chapter from adidas Originals brings together the brand’s past and present innovations for a new collection of hybrid styles. The Never Made collection debuts at Hype DC with three new designs, each featuring a heritage upper combined with modern sole technology. This new saga pays homage to the Boston Super and Rising Star – inspirations behind the ubiquitous NMD franchise – as well as the Marathon, an influence for the recently debuted Deerupt Runner.

The Boston Super made its first appearance in 1984 at the famous Boston Marathon. Comprising of suede and mesh, the Boston was an agile and breathable performance shoe, part of the legacy of innovative adidas design that would inspire the Never Made edition. The Boston Super_R1 boasts the original slate and red colourway combined with an NMD sole unit featuring full-length BOOST cushioning.

The second design in the collection also utilises the same NMD sole unit – in fact it is the inspiration for the NMD’s iconic midsole blocks. The Rising Star from 1984 featured modular midsole pads that allows customisation to the cushioning system. For 2018, the Rising Star returns in the original silver, blue and red combination, but updated with revolutionary BOOST cushioning and a contemporary twist.

The 1979 adidas Marathon trainer was one of the last projects overseen by adidas founder Adolf Dassler. The performance style utilised a signature mesh support structure on the midsole, designed to provide balanced compression and energy return. This revolutionary trainer would pave the way for performance footwear for the next five decades, eventually lending its aesthetic cues to the modern I-5923 and Deerupt silhouettes. The Never Made edition introduces BOOST foam to the original royal blue Marathon upper for a modernised take on a running classic.
