You don’t need to be a bonafide sneaker nerd to understand the social and sartorial influence of the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star. Its history is rooted in beatniks and punks, but its humble origins trace back to the hardwood.

The fabled sneaker is perhaps the ultimate chameleon, transcending cultures across the globe to become the ultimate staple in any rotation.

After over 100 years at the forefront of footwear, you’d forgive Converse for sticking to the winning Converse Chuck Taylor All Star formula – but they’re not. The latest embodiment of the Chuck – the FA20 Converse CX collection – builds on the sneaker’s legendary status, and propels it into an exciting new era.

‘We’ve always been a progressive brand, but as we enter a new decade we see an incredible opportunity to push the boundaries of our own design and product ethos,’ says Phil Russo, global VP, design & innovation at Converse. ‘How can we really show up for our consumers with products that reflect their physical and emotional needs? For us, that question has never been more vital.’

The Chuck Taylor All Star has built a reputation for being ‘the sneaker that never stands still’, keeping us on the move for decades. And now, the reimagined CX line introduces game-changing tech and innovative materials, taking the sneaker to new levels of comfort and style. Each CX silhouette for FA20 has been revamped with upgrades to three core Chuck elements, without altering the familiar Converse DNA.

The first advancement will be felt as soon as you slip them on. Canvas has been synonymous with Converse since day one, and the CX line brings to the fore a new ultra-comfortable knit, adapted to move with you. Additionally, the enhanced Stretch Canvas also lets you to chuck on your Chucks in even quicker time.

Down below, the vulcanised sole has always been part of the Chuck’s soul. We’ve all put our pairs through beatings, but now the ride will be even smoother thanks to the introduction of CX foam: a pairing of a single-density PU insole and lightweight phylon midsole. Together, they work to optimise impact absorption, providing all-day cushiness and support. Not to be forgotten, a revamped outsole design works together with CX foam, adding to the flexibility properties and making the sneaker even more durable.

For FA20, the Converse CX line introduces three new renditions of their lighter, more comfortable Chucks, delivering them in vibrant seasonal colours for the first time. The Chuck Taylor All Star CX arrives in an eye-catching black and orange scheme, with a black upper and translucent sole unit, the snea makes a bold statement below with a fiery orange outsole and heel stamp.

Toning things down, the low-cut Chuck Taylor All Star CX Ox hits differently, coming through with a classic all-white upper. Once again, the sole unit takes centre stage, also making use of a contrasting orange hue.

And, last but certainly not least, the Converse All Star Disrupt CX takes the line’s innovations even further, re-engineering the outsole with a three-dimensional CX foam bumper on the heel. These definitely make the biggest statement of the bunch.

The FA20 Converse CX collection is now available at Hype DC. These aren’t the Chucks you grew up in, but they could be the ones you live in this season!
