Name: Jake Bulgin
Role: Senior Account Manager, KeepCup
Kids: Olive & Dot

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

G'day! I'm Jake. I live in Avalon on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with my fiancé Mads and beautiful girls, Olive and Dot. I am a laid-back family man who loves living the simple life with our chickens and tending to my prized / amateur veggie garden - nothing more satisfying than providing for your family from your own backyard.

When I'm not working in the garden or surfing, I am a Senior Account Manager for KeepCup. My partner also has her own sustainable maternity/ underwear label Female Form which we work together on, plus I do some freelance Brand Management/ Strategy when I can find the time. Oh and almost forgot, I'm a Gemini haha.

Q: How do you normally spend Father’s Day? And what will it look like this year?

This is actually going to be my first official Father's Day! Olive is my soon-to-be step daughter and Dot is only 8 months old, so I’ve never had a proper Father’s Day before.

I’m pretty excited about it, although I don’t think it will be very different to a normal Sunday for us. Coffee and surf check, fam brekky in the sun sourced from our yard, a surf for me and an arvo nap/ movie with the girls. Living the dream!

Q: What are you secretly hoping your kids buy for you this Father’s Day?

I have to admit, I’m a pretty hard person to buy for. I'm pretty specific and like to keep it simple, only having what I need...but I would be pretty happy with anything surf or garden related. There is a new board from MISFIT Shapes I've got my eye on ;) and I wouldn't be a dad if socks and undies weren't up there on the list too haha.

Q: What's the coolest thing you’ve done or learnt as a dad?

I think the coolest thing I’ve learnt as a dad has been me learning to be less selfish and really focus on what’s important. The challenge of raising good humans is one that's worth every second and gives you a whole new perspective!

Also I am the kind of person who when there is a problem, I want to fix it, as efficiently as possible, however this is not always possible when say you have a screaming baby haha. So although I found it difficult in the beginning especially when Dot was first born, I have definitely learnt to let go and be more patient which has helped me in all aspects of life.

Q: Best memory you’ve made with your kids?

I have a lot of great memories with the kids already, however I think the best one would have been packing the car last minute and driving up and down the east coast with the family for 10 days. I showed the girls my favourite spots, and we surfed, ate, slept and chilled. Everyone was stoked and it was so refreshing to just get away, especially considering everything going on in the world and after a pretty chaotic 6 months for us as a family.

Q: What’s one thing you hope your children’s generation will do better than yours?

I hope my kids’ generation will have more focus on the environment and treat the world with a little more respect. I think my generation is catching on now and doing a great job with a better focus on sustainability and the effects we are all having on the environment. Sustainability and the future of our planet have always been important to me and are at the forefront of my job at KeepCup. Raising awareness and making a positive difference is key for me and I hope I pass this on to my kids.

Q: Where do you see your family in five years?

I see my family bigger than what it is now! I would love to add one or two more groms to the fam and the plan is to buy some land and build our dream home on it. That’s a big goal of ours but I’m sure we can get there one day! I obviously can’t say exactly where we will be, but I do hope that we are healthy, happy and living life to the fullest wherever we end up! Being together is what matters.

Q: Favourite family holiday destination?

Well since Dot was born we’ve only had one holiday up the coast but I can’t wait till restrictions are lifted and the world is safe again so I can take the girls to Indo and Fiji. That will be a beautiful day for us all!

Q: Tell us a little about your style and what you’re wearing in our Father’s Day campaign.

My style is pretty classic. I don’t get too wild on colours (I'm 6"3 with long curly hair so I don’t really want any extra attention drawn to myself lol.) I like good old black and white and will throw in some earthy colours if I'm feeling it. I often find myself wearing the same things on repeat (when they don't get covered in vomit or poo haha) which is lame but I don’t care anymore! I love a good cap or beanie to tame the locks too.

Q: What’s your favourite shoe at Hype DC? My favourite shoe at Hype DC is hands down the Dr. Martens 1461's. These are my go-to shoes because they mould to your feet and get more comfortable with every wear. They are durable in winter months, super easy to clean and pretty much go with everything. Sturdy, comfortable and a little bit mysterious - they are basically me in shoe haha. I also can’t go past a pair of fresh converse chucks. They are timeless and I love switching up the laces to make them different.

Q: What kind of sneakers do you usually wear When I'm not in Dr. Martens, I like to mix it up between Converse, Vans Slip-Ons or slides. I also have a thing for Nike Blazers...
