Meet Grant Perez: Hype DC team member and one of our featured Sneakertellers. Like all our campaign stars, Grant uses sneakers as a form of self-expression, and a vehicle to tell stories.

Read on to discover more about Grant’s style journey and footwear evolution.

In our campaign, you are wearing Tommy Hilfiger – what’s your first memory of Tommy Hilfiger?
Tommy Hilfiger was always on my radar growing up. My mates always used to wear the brand’s sneakers and now that they’ve come into Hype DC, I’m pretty stoked to get myself a pair.

What’s your favourite thing about the Tommy Hilfiger sneakers you are wearing in the Hype DC Sneakertellers campaign?
I love the sleek design of the brand’s sneakers – simple but versatile. You’re able to wear them anywhere while still showing off that Tommy colourway.

When did you realise you had a bit of a sneaker addiction?
To be honest, it’s always been there but once I started working at Hype DC the love just grew! I became more experimental with what I wore and started collecting another shoe almost every week. I’m always looking to wear something or style something that’s different to others.

How have sneakers affected your personal style over the years?
Shoes are like the finishing move to an outfit. Each outfit can completely change depending on the shoe you wear. So, if you think about it, a new shoe equals a new outfit.

What was your first experience with Hype DC?
My sister, Gigi – @gigiprz – used to work at Hype DC back in 2014 or so. And I remember from the get-go Hype DC would be the place to be! The Hype DC range has always been different from the other stores.

Do you have a favourite sneaker story?
I remember back when I didn’t have a stable source of income I reaaaaallly wanted this very specific pair of sneakers. Every day I’d walk into Hype DC and look straight at them and then walk out. Until I walked in with my sister, and she grabbed them off the shelf and bought them for me! I was mad happy that day – and proceeded to wear them every day for about two years. I was obsessed! I cleaned them every three days (until I started skating in them).

If you had your own action figure, what two accessories would it come with?
Probably my heavily stickered guitar and my stuffed baby blue bunny.
