Isaiah Firebrace is a recording artist who hails from country Victoria and is one of this season’s Hype DC Sneakertellers. Australia first got to know Isaiah when he won X Factor in 2016. Since then, he’s gone on to gain critical industry acclaim, and his music has been streamed over 200 million times worldwide.

Isaiah cites his move to Melbourne – and a visit to a Hype DC store – as the impetus for starting his sneaker addiction. Since then, his collection has been rapidly expanding, and sneakers have helped him shape his personal style.

We caught up with Isaiah post-shoot to chat music, world travels, and his fondest sneaker memories.

Hey Isaiah, we’re so excited to have you in our campaign. Can you tell us about your favourite sneaker memory?
It’d have to be getting my first pair of ‘real’ sneakers from an actual shop. My family didn’t have a lot of money growing up, so I always had generic sneakers that would fall apart or get a hole in the toe and get water in them on the way to school.

You’re wearing the Puma Suede in our Sneakertellers campaign. What’s your first memory or experience with the style?
My first experience with the Puma Suede was buying my sister her first pair in LA. She was so excited –she’d never been out of Australia before and all she wanted was a pair of Suedes. It’s such a good memory as it was also the first time I had enough money to buy my sister a present – and she loved them so much.

What’s your favourite thing about the Puma Suede?
I think the style is casual but classy. They make ANY outfit look good!

When did you realise you had a bit of a sneaker addiction?
I knew I had a sneaker problem when they started overtaking my room. I actually have to move into a bigger place because I’ve got too many pairs.

How have sneakers shaped your personal style over the years?
Sneakers have played an important role in my style. I love mixing and matching streetwear with more formal looks – sneakers have been a huge part of this.

When was the first time you shopped at Hype DC?
The first time I went into a Hype DC store was when I moved to Melbourne from the country – I just couldn’t believe the range. Coming from a small country town it was like a dream to have so much choice!

Do you have a favourite sneaker story or memory?
I guess my favourite story is in LA. We were about to leave for the airport and I realised I’d bought too many pairs – so my manager and I were madly running around trying to buy an extra suitcase before we left for the airport!
