adidas Originals have had a recent knack for reviving classic sportswear and performance silhouettes in recent seasons. Ever since they brought back the ZX series a big way with the ZX FLUX in 2014, there has been a large appetite for remixing bring-backs and as such, adidas have sought to delve into the inexplicably organised and extensive archives of the three stripes. What has since yielded the Racer Lite and more, the Tubular Runner wasn't an entirely out of place model to re-imagine from it's original form. Against creating a retro or 1 for 1, adidas Originals sought to re-engineer the multi-density chamber runner for a contemporary look and feel.

Just as the original Tubular Runner from 1993 was a game changer - what with a inflatable rubber chamber that could be inflated or deflated to a customised pressure - the Tubular Runner of today mimics the spirit of the original in creating an all new silhouette. The modern day Tubular Runner resembles classic trefoil sports heritage with contemporary applications, creating the latest effusion of sports style footwear. Borrowing elements from the adidas ZX series on the upper, a familiar heel cage, lace-row and shape is stitched together in the fashion of a bootie cut. A TPU, heat bonded toe wrap combines with a micro-mesh vamp and suede/leather panelling in shaping the sleek upper. The updated EVA midsole, reimagined from the original Tubular concept, embeds an exposed core in the centre, surrounded with a unique tube shape on the outer to deliver a unique sensation on-foot.
