Guillaume Philibert is the epitome of young success in ever-expanding market. The ex-architect has been on the up and up with his burgeoning footwear (and most recently ready-to-wear apparel) lines since founding Filling Pieces in 2009. As the 10th anniversary approaches, Hype DC catches the latest waves the Dutch contingency is making and brings the latest season of FP to antipodean shores.

Born out of a desire to bridge the gap between mainstream sneakers and luxury footwear in both the quality and pricepoint spheres, it is all in the name: the brand is Filling Pieces.

Building upon their most recognisable silhouette, the aptly-named Low Top, the current collection goes beyond simply slapping on fine Italian materials in neutral tones that previous years may be unfairly attributed to. A more adventurous aesthetic is explored this time with styles that can definitely be categorised as "sneakers".

That said, a spectrum of variations is available for the golden goose that is the Low Top. Tonal perforated suedes and nubuck, waxed finish and even metallic silver tumbled leather editions exist this season, plus some pared back versions are all part of the uniquely Eurocentric aesthetic that is Filling Pieces. Of course, all Filling Pieces silhouettes are still made in Portugal as part of the brand's ongoing commitment to craftsmanship that is of as high a quality as the materials stringently selected.

Additionally, Women are included as part of the extensive Filling Pieces collection too, with exclusive styles only available in smaller sizes. As part of the Amsterdam progressiveness, these female-specific colourways are far from being overtly feminine either, and instead play off a curated, chic look.
