When examining the genesis of this project, it's important to recall the turn of the millennium. Colliding with the Sydney Olympic games in 2000, the Swoosh was storming full speed ahead with their Alpha project, stretching boundaries of traditional footwear forms and functions. Building on the minimalist designs of the Sock Racer and Air Flow with ideas around Natural Motion, the Presto revisits the core ideas behind these models and updates them with affordances of factory tooling of the day. A concoction of Tobie Hatfield, the Presto constituted a stretch neoprene sheath upper with TPU lace cage and heel counter that sat atop a Phylon midsole with cushioned Duralon waffle tread. A recipe for the unwieldy or flat-out bizarre, the Presto entered into its own cult following soon after its debut and never left the sight of Swoosh fanatics, with numerous editions spanning the last 16 years. Simply put, manufactured in non-traditional XXS-XXL lasts, there was nothing normal about the design.

Today the Presto arrives full circle, meeting the seeds it sowed with the original Presto and similar Alpha project alum, Air Woven, back in the early 2000s that led to the development of Flyknit. The Air Presto Flyknit debuts in a distinct mid-cut silhouette, clad by a lock-down fit and adaptive fit zone, unlocked by the different densities in the engineered weave of the Flyknit upper that provide elasticity, breathability and strength. Under the hood, an updated Ultra Presto midsole with reinforced TPU lace cage and heel counter connects seamlessly for a familiar look and complementary feel. Just as the T-Shirt for your feet heralded the beginning of unlimited colourway possibilities on neoprene, the Flyknit Presto will simialrly unleash its own array of endless opportunities with the weave of the Knit.
